Halloween is one of the most fun times of the year at Ocean Lakes. Everyone at the campground decorates and joins in all the weekend festivities. For many families near and far, Halloweekends have become an annual family tradition! Bring your candy bag and pumpkin – it’s a treat for everyone!

Safety and Security Policies Regarding Masks and Face Coverings

Due to COVID-19, our normal “Masks and Face Coverings” policy has been modified. Face coverings are required in Horry County (see Ordinance here). The 3 Major Considerations regarding Masks: 1 Coronavirus guidelines for Masks and Face Coverings recommend covering the nose and mouth. 2 Halloweekend guidelines address and restrict FULL Face Coverings and Masks to set times and locations for guest safety and security concerns. 3 Security Reasons – Avoiding fully covered faces where ONLY the guest’s eyes are showing. We want to honor the spirit of the holiday fun but must keep safety and security a priority – that includes identifying guests when needed. COVID-19 Guidelines REALLY makes this confusing! 1 Full masks and face coverings (that cover MORE than the nose and mouth) are only permitted to be worn in Ocean Lakes for the 5 Halloweekends*** (on Fridays and Saturdays). 2 Full-face coverings or masks cannot be worn in our businesses (Sandy Mart, RV Center, Golf Cars, Main Office, Ocean Lakes Properties, Sandy Harbor) except during Trick o’ Treating on Saturdays from 4:30 – 6:30 PM. They are generally permitted in the Recreation Center as it is the hub of our Halloweekend events and costume contests. Operating a vehicle or golf car with a FULL mask or face covering is NOT permitted as it is a safety issue and also hinders Security in identifying underage drivers. Security teammates will use discretion on a case by case basis as needed throughout Halloweekends regarding masks, coverings, costumes, and decorations.

Please remember all the “young eyes and young ears” in our campground and be family-friendly!

Friday Events* (all 5 Halloweekends):

Family Ceramics | 2 classes: 9 AM – 11:30 AM OR 12:30-3 PM |  All ages are welcome. Children younger than 12 MUST be accompanied by an adult.  Seating is limited to only 30 spots per class so make sure you arrive on time. Guests must choose 1 class (cannot attend both). We have a wide variety of ceramics to choose from ranging in price from $1.00 to $40.00. Completed items will be ready to pick up Friday night from 6 – 9 PM. Held in the Recreation Center, Room C. There is a daily supply fee of $1.50 plus the cost of the item you choose to paint. Pumpkin Mad Science | 2 PM | Come to the Nature Center to do a spooky science experiment to keep. Sign up at the Nature Center – limited availability. $2 per child – cash only. Beachside Movie* | 7-9 PM | Grab the whole family for a fun night under the stars (keep your distance from other families).  Bring your chairs, blankets, and snacks down to the basketball courts. We will be showing “Home on the Range.” Please note: The basketball courts will shut down at 6:15 pm in order to prepare for the movie! *Movie will be canceled due to inclement weather including high winds.

Saturday Events* (all 5 Halloweekends):

Pumpkin Carving/Painting/Decorating Contest | 9 AM-Noon | Drop off your already carved/painted/decorated pumpkin in the Recreation Center, Room A. (Must be a real pumpkin.) We will award prizes in each of the following categories: Most Unique, Funniest, Best Theme Execution, Best Decorated, and Best Carving Skills.  Winners will be posted in the Recreation Building. We ask that you pick your pumpkin up between 7 – 9 PM Saturday night. (Pumpkins not picked up will be thrown away on Sunday). NO FEE. ♥ 1-4 PM | Guest Voting – Use the link below or Vote via CampersAPP (in app, search “ocean lakes” to access our App content and info). Vote for Pumpkins Terror Under the Sea | 11:30 AM | Come to the Nature Center to learn about some of the scarier creatures at Sandy’s Seaside Ranch. All ages are welcome. NO FEE. Costume Contest Entry | App/Website Upload | Deadline: 3 PM Saturday Weekly, beginning at 9 am Thursday – 3 pm Saturday, meander down to the official Costume Contest entry location, Sandy’s Seaside Ranch (tall wooden sign by big beachfront “I Heart OL”), to take your best costume photo. Enter the contest with CampersAPP or with the link below (blue box). Complete the digital form and upload your contest entry photo. Winners will be announced by 8 pm on Saturday night. NO FEE. Plan to go earlier to avoid a line and meet the upload deadline! ♥ Pet Costume Contest  | App/Website Upload | Deadline: 3 PM Saturday There will be 1 winner (per week) in each of the following categories: Best Dressed, Most Unique, Cutest, Funniest, and Best of Show. We will notify the winners by 8 pm on Saturday. ♥ Family Costume Contest | App/Website Upload | Deadline: 3 PM Saturday There will be 6 winners (per week) in each of the following categories: Funniest, Cutest, Scariest, Most Unique, and Best Overall. Have fun! We will notify the winners by 8 pm on Saturday. Enter Pet/Human Costume Contests Trick o’ Treating | 4:30 – 6:30 PM Treaters | Plans and Participation Requirements – ONLY 250 sites eligible If you want to hand out treats, PLEASE MAKE SURE TO SIGN UP IN REC. office prior to 2 pm on the day of. You will be given a Hootenanny Kit and a distinctive Halloween Hootenanny sign to put at your site.  You can start handing out treats at 4:30 pm. You will most likely run out of candy so just buy the amount of candy you want to hand out. When you run out take your sign down. Tricksters |  At 4:30 PM (NO SOONER!!) those wishing to go trick-or-treating around the campground can pick up the Treat-Friendly Site List in the Recreation Office. NO FEE. Creepy Site Crawl | 6 PM Site Decorators | If you are interested in entering your site in the Halloween decorating contest, sign up in the Recreation Office prior to 4 PM on the day of. Please keep your decorations “young eyes” friendly for this event. Prizes will be awarded in the following categories: Most Creative, Best Theme Execution and Best Overall. NO FEE. ♥ Site Judges | You must vote via CampersAPP or link below (NO PAPER BALLOTS) Vote for Creepy Sites At 6 PM on Saturday, we will give out a Creepy Site Crawl List for viewing/judging. Upon receiving the list, our guests will perform the “Creepy Site Crawl” throughout the campground. All votes must be uploaded using CampersAPP or link above before 8 PM on Saturday. No lists will be handed out after 7:30 PM. Only 1 ballot per site/family. Just for Fun | Pumpkin Search: Do you miss participating in our annual Amazing Race?
